It is a free application that provides statistics used for monitoring the traffic flow to your website. Google Analytics is easily found through Google itself and to access it all you need is a simple Google user name. Don’t have a user name? No problem. The application allows you to create your own when you sign up for it.

If you’re learning about SEO, or were able to understand thus far, you’ll have no problem with this Google function. Give them your email address, a password, and type in the ridiculously scribbled word as a verification that you can read. You’ll need to skim through the Terms of Service section and then click on the little “I accept create my account” button. With your user name and password, you should be in good shape. This is the easy part. Google will give you a bit of text and you must copy it into the coding of your site. It’ll take a couple days for that fragment of text to gather up any sort of tracking information, but given a couple months, it will have a thoroughly new (and rather useful) list of monitored data. At this point, you can grab whatever information on keywords that you need.

However, Google Analytics does not examine crawler and spider data, so you won’t be able to see directly into the effectiveness of your SEO work. But it does give you a good idea of which words works and which don’t. If that isn’t good enough for your needs, a program called Google Ad Words is a paid keyword tracker that is highly effective when combined with Google Analytics.
